About the Role:
In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing enterprise virtualization infrastructure. You’ll be a technical leader, driving architecture improvements and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities:
- Architect, implement, and support large-scale virtualization environments using VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM.
- Manage and monitor vCenter servers, clusters, and hypervisors to ensure optimal health and performance.
- Lead virtualization upgrades, patching, disaster recovery, and compliance initiatives.
- Oversee the provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management of virtual machines (VMs).
- Collaborate with storage and network teams to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
- Automate VM management tasks using scripts and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Work with stakeholders on capacity planning and resource optimization.
- Maintain detailed documentation on architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot escalated incidents and perform root cause analysis (RCA) on major outages.
- Mentor junior engineers and standardize operating procedures for the team.
Requirements:
- Extensive hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, and DRS/HA.
- Proficiency in Hyper-V and Linux-based KVM virtualization platforms.
- Strong understanding of storage systems (SAN, NAS, vSAN) and their integration with hypervisors.
- Familiarity with network virtualization concepts, including vSwitches, DVS, VLANs, and VXLAN.
- Experience with VM automation tools like PowerCLI, Ansible, and Terraform.
- Expert troubleshooting skills using tools such as vROps, esxtop, and VM logs.
- Experience with VM backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Commvault, Zerto).
Preferred Skills:
- Exposure to cloud-based virtualization platforms (VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure Stack HCI).
- Understanding of containers and hybrid virtualization solutions (OpenShift, Proxmox).
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Nagios, Zabbix, vRealize).
- Knowledge of security hardening best practices for hypervisors and guest operating systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management tools (ServiceNow, Remedy).
- Preferred certifications: VMware VCP, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, or RHCE.
