Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to provide high-quality IT support and infrastructure management across multiple environments. The role involves handling support requests via the service desk, delivering 2nd–3rd line technical support, and acting as overflow support for 1st line engineers when required. The successful candidate will also contribute to IT projects, participate in an on-call rota for critical systems, and support patching and maintenance activities outside standard business hours when necessary.

This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team. The candidate must be proactive, solution-oriented, and committed to maintaining technical competency while producing accurate documentation and sharing knowledge with colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Provide client-focused IT support via service desk, instant messaging, and phone
  • Log, track, and resolve support tickets in line with ITIL/ITSM standards
  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line troubleshooting across server, network, and application environments
  • Perform root cause analysis and effective problem resolution
  • Monitor and administer systems using tools such as Zabbix, N-Central, and other monitoring platforms
  • Administer and support email security solutions (e.g., VIPRE, Mimecast)
  • Manage Veeam backup and restore operations
  • Handle change control requests (CCR) and scheduled security patching
  • Perform Windows Server and network appliance patching
  • Administer Windows Server environments (2019–2025), including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Active Directory, SSO, RDP, IAM, and related services
  • Support and maintain virtualisation platforms (VMware and Hyper-V)
  • Manage networking environments, including IP addressing standards, naming conventions, VPNs, MFA, and firewall configurations (Cisco/FortiGate)
  • Administer network solutions such as Ubiquiti, Meraki, Ruckus, QNAP, and Synology
  • Maintain cybersecurity controls including antivirus, disk encryption, MFA, and incident response in line with ISO27001:2022 and Cyber Essentials
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services (Exchange, Intune, SharePoint, OneDrive, Azure/Azure Local, Defender)
  • Support and manage Google Workspace tenants
  • Provide printer and scanner support
  • Liaise with vendors and technology partners for issue resolution
  • Research, plan, and implement IT projects
  • Design and deliver solutions based on business and client requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and knowledge base articles
  • Administer VoIP solutions
  • Manage SSL certificate installation and renewal
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, or 3rd Line Support role
  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining IT solutions

Strong knowledge of:

  • Windows Server 2019–2025
  • Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Active Directory and Group Policy
  • SAN/NAS storage
  • TCP/IP networking

Additional Requirements:

  • Switch and firewall administration (Cisco or FortiGate preferred)
  • PowerShell scripting experience
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration
  • Experience with MS365/Google migrations and hybrid environments
  • RMM automation policy configuration and rollout
  • Experience working in an ITIL/ITSM environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical users
  • Proven track record of delivering IT projects on time and following best practices
Desired Skills
  • Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, Debian)
  • Password management solutions
  • Power BI experience
  • Vendor certifications such as Microsoft (AZ, MD, MS, PL), AWS, Cisco CCNA, FortiGate
