Role Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled Prototyping Technician who is passionate about fabrication to help turn concepts into testable physical products. You will work alongside our design and engineering teams to bridge the gap between digital designs and physical objects. If you have a maker mindset and enjoy creating, experimenting, and working hands-on to build functional prototypes, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct functional prototypes for environmental testing and design validation.
- Perform fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, grinding, sanding, polishing, buffing, and painting.
- Work with a variety of materials such as metal (aluminum/SS), plastics (ABS/PC), acrylic, and composites.
- Take raw parts and make them “market-ready” through careful surface preparation and high-quality spray painting.
- Assemble mechanical parts, electronic enclosures, and complex mockups.
- Safely use and manage hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment while maintaining tool organization and cleanliness.
- Iterate quickly on multiple prototype versions based on feedback from the R&D team.
- Collaborate with the design team to create custom fixtures, jigs, and provide actionable feedback on design buildability.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Hold an educational background in ITI, Product Design, a Diploma in Mechanical/Electronics, or be a degree fresher with a strong hands-on portfolio.
- Demonstrate strong hands-on mastery in fabrication, prototyping, or architectural model making.
- Possess expert proficiency with workshop tools including angle grinders, drills, jigsaws, sanding machines, and basic welding/soldering.
- Exhibit the ability to interpret 2D drawings or 3D models on a screen and understand how to build them physically.
- Show strong skills in surface preparation, sanding, and spray painting to achieve smooth, professional finishes, alongside experience post-processing 3D printed parts (SLA/FDM).
- Have a basic understanding of mechanical and electronic assembly practices (familiarity with basic electronics, soldering, and wiring is a strong plus).
- Maintain a “can-do” initiative, a safety-conscious mindset, and strict attention to the fit and finish of every part.
- Thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment; prior experience in a prototyping lab, automotive workshop, or design studio is highly desirable.
