UK Bookkeeper & Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our UK accounting practice team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in UK accounting, taxation, payroll, and bookkeeping, along with strong knowledge of UK GAAP and compliance requirements. This role involves managing client accounts, preparing statutory reports, handling VAT and corporation tax filings, and supporting partners in delivering accurate and timely financial services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review quarterly VAT returns while ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Process monthly payroll, including PAYE, pension contributions, and CIS deductions (software training will be provided where required).
  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using QuickBooks and Xero, including bank reconciliations and discrepancy resolution.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with FRS102 and FRS105 standards, including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation adjustments.
  • Review and analyze Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets, identifying variances and providing insights for client discussions.
  • Prepare and file Corporation Tax returns (CT600) with accurate calculation of taxable profits.
  • Manage ad-hoc accounting responsibilities such as CIS returns, journal postings, and responding to client queries.
  • Coordinate with partners and senior team members to finalize accounts and ensure submissions are completed within deadlines.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Essential Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a UK accounting practice.
  • Strong understanding of UK GAAP, VAT, payroll, and corporation tax.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and Xero.
  • Good knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles and financial adjustments.
  • Part-qualified or fully qualified ACCA/ACA, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience using AutoEntry, Iris Elements, and BrightPay.
  • Familiarity with FRS102 and FRS105 financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to work with incomplete financial records and reconstruct accounts accurately.

CTC: 6 LPA (negotiable)
